The Gloster Meteor was the first jet powered fighter aircraft to enter service with the RAF. From July 1944 the first Meteor Squadron flew sorties against the V1's. The improved F4 model first flew in 1945 and was delivered to RAF Squadrons from 1948 onwards. Many other countries also ordered the F4. The Meteor could achieve a maximum speed of 941 km/h (585 mph).
